They had the right equipment (refrigerated truck, hand carts, big bins), they knew what they were doing, I felt good about the whole thing. I generally tipped about $15 and that felt generous (they were just delivering the groceries, not shopping and packing).
Now it’s some poor person making absolute peanuts pulling up with their sedan, needing help getting all the groceries out. I feel awful for them, as I’m sure they make nothing. What happens if they hurt their back? They’re SOL. No workers comp for them. Plus the service is worse. And now I feel like I need to be tipping 20% minimum which is like $40-60.
So shittier service that is exploiting these people AND I’m paying way more.
We did a bunch of research and could not find any grocery delivery services that used employees anymore. It’s all farmed out to Uber or Instacart.
I’d love to hear an alternative if anyone’s got one. Family of five with no car - we need grocery delivery and are willing to pay more.
Same. This is why I used to get deliveries from giant and used to have their subscription. Switching to giant pick up.
