I solve this by paying by check whenever possible. It avoids the auto-renew issue entirely.

I always go into my account and turn off auto-renew immediately. But this is the worst - my husband paid a PayPal monthly fee for an unused Flickr account until I noticed like 20 years later!!!

Just wait for someone to try to steal money out of your debit or credit card account, be forced to freeze the accounts and cancel the cards, then auto renewals take care of themselves. Happens to me at least one per year.

For annual subscriptions, I create a calendar reminder for a few weeks before the renewal date so I can decide whether to keep or cancel.

In this situation, I would call and cancel, and request a refund.

Call them and cancel it retroactively now.

Or cancel it now, enjoy the rest of the magazines for a year and it won’t automatically renew next year.

Don’t feel to bad. People forgetting is the busintmodel. You probably waste hundreds, if not thousands of dollars this way. A lot of us do.

I tried to cancel Vanity Fair and they make it so difficult. Then I forget about it because I don't actually get the physical magazine. Then I'm charged.

Use a financial tracking app like Monarch. It'll tell you about all recurring transactions and you can see trends and set budgets.

You are right, but I am good with a recurring $20 magazine subscription, not $80.

Since you have so many that you need a system, you can afford them.

I have all my subscriptions listed in a spreadsheet so I can see when renewal dates are approaching. Since I keep my other financials in the same spreadsheet im always looking at things pretty regularly.

Try calling/doing an online chat and see if you can get it reversed.

I was just charged $80 via Paypal for an auto renewal for a subscription to Bon Appetit. I am so mad I didn't cancel in time but had no idea after 20 years of subscribing it would get so expensive. How do you stay on top of auto renewals? I need to find a better way.
