I should add that both are paying for their own trips from summer earnings. Not sure I would but it's their money.

First kid went to a private school with a 2 week spring break and everyone she knew ( including her) seemed to travel, some just fun and some with school groups performing, sports etc). Second kid at a state school with one week break and is excited to come home, see friends, never even brought up travel question

Home, the cost of a family trip was outrageous.

Home, we aren't paying for a trip.

Miami then Royal Caribbean Cruise to the Bahamas with family. A good time to warm up our frozen toes!

My freshman will be coming on a family trip. DC is an only child, so we don't need to plan around different schedules. I expect they will travel with friends in subsequent years. This year, we ALL can't wait to get somewhere warm!

For reference, DC asked around and none of their good friends are doing college-kid-only trips. A few are going home and a few are traveling with family.

My jr is heading with classmates to Seoul Korea with a day in Istanbul while doing a 24 hour layover. Very different from my spring breaks to Jamaica and the DR 30 years ago...

My kid is heading to Ireland with a group of friends. Direct flight from Boston was only $100 more than a flight for him to come home for the week, where he’d just hang out (younger sibling in HS, her break isn’t til April so no way to do a family trip. Staying in youth hostels, so a very reasonable trip for a college kid.

Coming home, half of it will be for a family trip and half at home. Same thing last year but spent full week at home enjoying time with high school friends. My kid goes to school in the South, so the warm-weather-spring-break-destination lure isn’t as strong. I went to college up North and couldn’t wait to be somewhere warm for spring break.

What are these kids up to nowadays? Is it still the FL beaches, or trip to Cancun? Are they going to the same places the oldies went to party in the 20th century? Alternative Spring break? Coming home to rest? Working? Other?
