Thank you for sharing this—it’s very common for children to feel more motivated when they can play and learn alongside other kids. At this point, it may not mean that goals need to change, but rather that we take a closer look at how the sessions are structured. There are many factors that can affect engagement, and sometimes small adjustments can make a big difference.

One option to consider is finding ways to include peers or sibling-style interaction within parts of the 1:1 sessions. This can keep the individualized support in place while also giving your children opportunities to practice skills in a more social, motivating context. We also want to be sure activities connect to things they genuinely enjoy, since interest often drives participation.

Do you happen to know what they are responding to—or not enjoying—during the 1:1 time? Any details you’ve noticed can help us tailor the approach so the sessions feel more natural and engaging for them.

I have 2 kids, and they are both HFA & adhd. I have spent a lot of time and effort on "build some friendship" and " build confidence and anxiety" part separately for them for the last few years. It takes up 80 percent of their free time. They would rather playing and learning with other kids than working with adult 1:1 on therapy or tutoring/coach. They have improved over the time spending with other kids, but the progress is slow. DD is 2nd grader, and DS is 5th grader. Should I change my priorities and concentrate on other goals below instead for the next few years? DS is going to MS soon.

Goals:
-build some friendship (both DS & DD has issue)
- build confidence and anxiety ( both DS & DD h
has issue)
-executive functioning skill for daily life to be independent ( DS has issue)
-school academic (at least average) - DD has issue
- speech and articulation - DD has issue
