Above makes no sense. Either you prioritize spanish and immersion or you don’t.

If you don’t prioritize spanish, don’t choose MV. Of all the immersion charters, MV has the strongest spanish and many non-hispanics families are either proficient or fluent in spanish.

Go with TR. I hear the ECE is pretty good.

As to some posters saying poor DCPS schools like JO or Langley, no way. Read the post about DCPS and screens in ECE. Total disaster and developmental inappropriate. And so easy to get into either schools if you want later anyway because families leave.

OP would hate Langley. But that's beside the point. OP needs to really think about why Two Rivers made so many waitlist offers. TR4 admitted 42 kids and waitlisted 49 (from 359 total applicants). Then made 36 waitlist offers, so probably got through their list. And you can add the Equitable Access data to that. Langley had 132 applicants, matched 42 and had a wait-list of 44, and then made just 4 waitlist offers. So Langley seems to have been the harder school to get into, and matched or waitlisted a higher proportion of its applicant pool than TR4 did. And this is *despite* TR4 having better CAPE scores than Langley, and *despite* TR4 having arguably a more appealing middle school than Langley feeds to, and *despite* having all the unappealing things about DCPS like too much screen time. What could account for Langley being overall more appealing than TR4? Really ponder this, OP.

I have kids going in K and PK3 this year in this vicinity (with an IB I don’t want to be at after ECE, which is my focus this year) and I’m not even sure I’m going to rank Two Rivers in my 12.

MVP on the other hand has thrown me for a bit of a loop. I was going to rank it as a sort of safety school (again focused on the K student, for whom I won’t consider immersion after this year) but I left their open house liking it way more than I expected. Campus is nice and bustling in a good way, location is moderately convenient between home and work, albeit in a congested and sometimes sketchy neighborhood. Meals cooked in house. DCI preference down the road. Decent chance of getting both kids in. Seems like a good student population. I’m suddenly finding myself wondering why I’d rank, say, CHML, higher when MVP has so much to recommend it. For me personally, I’m going MVP over Two Rivers.

I do agree though, not sure an immersion makes sense if you’re going private soon. I imagine TR ECE is fine.

Yeah, I live in the neighborhood and know families with kids of all ages. I don't know anyone who stayed at TR -- every family I know left. About 70% of the MV families left, but some stayed and are now relatively happy at DCI.

DCPS is actually very good at ECE (their class sizes are smaller than charter and the teachers all have masters degrees and are super qualified) but middle school becomes tricky.

DCPS is definately pushing more screens not only in ECE but across the board. It’s not good.

I assume School within school is already on your list? I bet you would like it.

Agreed with jo Wilson. Have you looked at friendship Armstrong? I know some families that were happy with ECE there, though they switched to their inbound dcps for kindergarten. I might even do chml over two rivers for ece. If you are planning to pull the kid out for private, I would only do mundo if you are confident that you would do Spanish for elementary.

How do you like Langley? From the open house it seems they use a lot of screens. Although the limited students means more attention to my child. We are thinking short term after PK we are considering private.

If you're the private school type, you won't like Langley. I like it just fine and I don't mind about the screens. It has nicer outdoor space than Two Rivers, and the ECE teachers are great. I really don't go for the Two Rivers vibe. Their short waitlist speaks for itself-- they used to have multiple hundreds of kids waitlisted so I don't know what happened to crater it.

I tend to judge school performance relative to demographics, and Two Rivers is certainly not over performing when looked at in that light!

Unless Spanish immersion is important to you, I'd do most DCPS schools over both of these for ECE, based on what I know about them.

Those schools aren't far from Seaton and JO Wilson - I'd at least check those two out. If you want Spanish immersion, Cleveland isn't far either and I have friends having a good experience there for ECE, though I've never a kid attend myself.

ECE is pretty strong across the district and then you can decide if you want to stay at the school or lottery elsewhere for K and up.

To put my response in context: I've never had a kid at either TW or Mundo. I have friends who have left both schools, and I went to a Two Rivers open house. But obviously, people with direct experience will know more.

If there are your two options, I would rank MV higher so you can have a strong path through 12th grade.

If you care about middle and high school, Mundo is way better. TR middle is a disaster and there is no high school feeder at all. Yes it matters, people leave TR in elementary because of it.

Suggest you consider JO Wilson.
