This. My guess is whoever is watching his cats (cat sitter, friend, family member) while he's away took that photo to congratulate him, he thought it was funny and reposted it. And it is cute.

Probably his mom. She didn’t go to Italy (despite being one of his coaches) because she gets too nervous and, in turn, makes him nervous. He’s probably stressed enough with the excessive media coverage.

Didn't they show his mom on the skating rink there in Italy? Maybe that's why he seemed very nervous today.

They did show her but it was from the skating rink in Reston.

I remember taking my kids there for skating lessons, and he's a student at GMU, where DD went, so I'm very happy.

How is this working?

Did Ilia bring his cat over to Italy with him? Is he that attached to his cat? When did Ilia arrive in Italy - wouldn't his cat have to spend time in quarantine upon arrival in Italy? I would hope Ilia bought a seat for his cat on the plane. Isn't such a trip a hard thing for cats?

So many questions.

This is so VERY clearly NOT his actual medal. This is like a medal you can buy at Party Mania.
