If it’s the same kids over and over, it’s not normal and it’s really tough for the other kids. It’s really tough for the teachers, too. So many kids don’t have self-control these days.

It isn't acting up. It isn't mental health or a disability. It's a jerk doing lowkey bullying. It happened when we went to school and it happened when our parents went to school.

School can't do anything about a single incident because they can't prove that it was intentional.

The only things you can do is work with them on their dodgeball skills, teach them a means of proportionately retaliating, and helping them figure out a way to not publicly react to it.

Yes this happens. It used to be that it was one or two kids. When I was in school in the 90s we knew who those kids were. Now it’s more than a couple kids at school, it’s a couple in every grade or even every class. There are no real consequences and many of the kids who need a different environment are just being shunted in the mainstream public system.

Have you talked to your daughter about how she has dealt with that stuff and how she should? If she feels adults aren't doing anything to prevent or deal with it, you can email her teacher. Don't lead with accusations, do let them know what your daughter is reporting to you and how it's affecting her, ask for clarification on behavior policies.

DD is in 2nd grade in MCPS. I hear so many reports of kids hitting and punching each other, inappropriate grabbing and touching of other classmates, especially during unstructured times. The other day, a kid in her class intentionally hit her in the head with a ball at PE and laughed it off. This is one of countless episodes that have happened to her and her friends. It’s an ongoing disruption. Wtf is going on? Curious to hear others’ experiences here. “Boys will be boys” respondents need not post.
