Not okay. As a fellow German Immersion parent, how can we help? Who is in charge of this placement program? Should we mention this at the OHES PTA meeting?

All she needs to do is petition to transfer to Robinson.

WSHS is Closed with a capital C.

I am sorry. That is very frustrating. My child’s current high school stopped offering German before he got there. I was disappointed as I wanted him to take it. It wasn’t offered at his middle school either. I had briefly thought about the immersion program for 1st grade at Orange Hunt but didn’t want the commute. I don’t know why German isn’t offered at more schools.

That is why everyone is shocked that FCPS over road their own transfer policy the past 5 or 6 years and allowed 50+ students to transfer into over crowded and closed to transfers WSHS when Robinson was just a neighborhood away.

There is no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater. FCPS just needs to stop allowing German language transfers as a loophole to get into WSHS from lower performing schools.

The old policy would have been just fine, if FCPS would have actually enforced it.

At least I have a name of the person who is responsible now. They really needed to come up with a solution for students who have already put seven years into the language.

It's a shame. FCPS wastes money on schools that aren't needed, but decides that the way to deal with other problems is to shut down student transfers for foreign language.

This is the doing of School Board members like Robyn Lady. Lady can't string together a coherent sentence in English, but she wanted to put an end to student transfers for foreign language because it makes it harder for school administrators to put together their master schedules.

You can pupil place but only at a school open for transfers. Find schools that offer German and check the website to see if they’re open for transfers. You will have to provide your own transportation.

The same way we are at Orange Hunt, and Irving. That’s where the German immersion program is, West Springfield. It’s where they continued it, we are close to Robinson. That would be OK too, but I don’t think it’s an option either.

Mostly, I don’t want her to stop, and it was offered to us. I think there should be a way to grandfather in the students they’re not that many of them.

WSHS doesn't have room for transfers, for any reason. What school are you zoned for and how did you get in to Irving? I'd try to find another high school with German or see if you can do virtual German at your home high school.

Robinson has German. It's a surprisingly (to me) popular elective.

Contact your school board member. They weren’t focused on closing language transfers for everyone just those using it to get into overcrowded schools like WSHS.

No, our counselor tells us that there is no German transfers to West Springfield. Our base school does not offer German.

What can we do? We didn’t do it get out of our own school. It was just the closest immersion program.

Find another HS that offers German and pupil place there.
