These places should be blatantly monitored. Including SLAs for response time when a call button is pushed, etc. Just like bodycams, if a worker refuses, they are hiding something.

I'm sure it's true. I've witnessed staff being incredibly mean to residents. I've been there when we've pushed the button and no one has come in close to an hour. The admin says this is impossible but I was actually there, so I know it's true when my parent complains that pushing the button does nothing.

YES. We've had staff at my parents' assisted living facility shout, ignore, physically harm and neglect our parents. YES GET A CAMERA.

We also put an echo show in my dad's memory care room. The facility put a big sign on his door saying "surveillance in progress" or something like that. Honestly if it keeps staff on their best behavior, I'm fine with that. One benefit I really like is that it plays music in his room, which is otherwise pretty empty and boring. Staff picked up on it on their own and will start and stop music for him.

I put an Amazon echo “Alexa” in their room, and enabled Drop In. I could check on them visually and chat if they chose to. It also picks up noises like breaking glass or yelling, so that could be found on activity log.

Ours does. Someone who had one had a poster that said, "You are being watched" or something like that. I did not think that wording sounded very nice. I prefer to lead with the idea that I will trust people while keeping my eye on things just in case.

I would probably just make a sign with, "Cameras in use."

Maybe I will make a sign like that and not even use cameras!

I don’t think they can tell you outright no. But if you have to disclose it, disclose it. They’ll put a poster on the door.

Frankly I’d find it suspicious if they don’t allow it (with consent of all appropriate parties).

We have one in my mom’s memory care apartment. Really just use it to see if she’s napping before I enter the building. Their only requirement is that a notice is posted on the door. I think the majority of residents there have a camera.

Was just joking with the siblings about putting one on a "flower arrangement". Mom complains that "they're mean" when one of us isn't there visiting.

Put one in temporarily once. Used one hidden in a small clock. It connected to the WiFi. Confirmed there were no issues for me.

Do nursing homes allow this?
