Because we are not creating new medical schools. It's rare that a whole new medical school opens. They are expensive to run and are in short supply. Too many applicants for too few spots.

You definitely missed the point. Provider wages (paid by insurance companies) can be suppressed if you bring in labor from the developing world.

So-called shortages in U.S. labor are often pressed as a political issue with the proposed solution of importing cheaper labor. This is in every sector of the economy.

Because the AMA has lobbied for years to keep the number of physicians low. How else do you think their salary floor is ~200k?

It's also very expensive to run an accredited medical school. A lot of medical schools are losses for the university.
