In three years, when your kid is looking at colleges, the consultants will circle back to telling everyone they need to start an NGO and then what will you do with the passion project your kid didn't even want to do in the first place?

Is he will to play along with this crap? Of my 3 kids, only 1 would be the least bit pliable.

It's not hard to get a passion project. Ask him what he likes? Is it gardening? Then do all extracurriculars around this. Is it Cuba? Then it's easy to find things that support this.

The problem is getting a 14 or 15 year old to go along with this insanity. if you can then it's easy.

He is a freshmen, 14 years old. He will be 15 in a few months.

I agree that if he doesn’t have a passion, it is hard to do a passion project. I’m hoping this counselor/coach can explore options with him.

He is a straight A, 3 sport athlete.

Sounds like his passion is sports. Why can't he just do that?
For example, if he is doing horseback riding, he could develop a passion project out of this. He could work part time in a horse related job.

I think a better approach would be to meet with a college counselor to talk about how to guide him, and create a narrative. It doesn't seem like he's the kind of kid where a passion project makes sense.

A meaningful passion project is something that rises out of a passion. What is he passionate about?

You are officially nuts. A 3 sport "athlete" and has no passions? He's a 14 yr old boy, let him be one. Most kids don't know their life purpose at 14!

Sounds like you want a lot more than someone to talk to him. You want someone to craft a meaningful ans impactful passion project for your kid so he appears completely different than who he is and how he acts.

This! Please don't try to manufacture or force this. It is often super obvious anyway. Your kid is who he is and will do just fine in life.

Why do you think he would listen to someone else?

If someone doesn't have a passion, they don't need a passion project.
