This is OP. Do they allow you to minor in business?

It will be very challenging to switch and he should be happy at VT outside of the business school. Many Business admits were waitlisted and VT does not want to make it a thing where students apply to easier majors and then transfer into Pamplin.

I would say near impossible.

Look at the Agriculture business major in the Ag school, that might be one they’d allow a switch for.

Yes, it is. There is no guarantee your child will be able to switch.

+1 VT admits by major and really frowns on changes like this.

+1 No offense to your kid but NR is an easier major and they will think your kid tried to backdoor his admission. One thing he may want to think about it minoring in PPE - check it out.

This is one of the majors they do not allow you to transfer into easily- they tell you this up front- and at all the in person tours. ESPECIALLY from a major like Natural Resources.

This is a tough one. VT doesn’t make this easy because they have to be careful to not oversubscribe and they the to ensure people don’t start applying to easy majors with the intention to switching right away. As such, she needs to decide if she wants VT or she wants business. Don’t go to VT unless she would be happy in another major. The key to switching will be to get an A in Calc freshman year. Take a hard look at VT freshman math and decide if an A is realistic.

Most business majors are 'restricted' meaning you need to satisfy certain requirements, and they need to complete at least one semester in their original major. This site has helpful information:

My DS was admitted to VT Natural Resources school but he now says he might want to do business. Is it possible to transfer into Pamplin once you are a student at VT? If it's possible, is it crazy competitive?

This is a late stage change of heart by my DS.
