This is bananas. Shouldn't it be done in a dermatologist's office?

People so often try to deal with the biller in their panic.
Let your insurance company tell them they are violating their contract. Call them.

Typical bill for me:
Doctor: $500
Hospital fee:$2000
I owe: $20

Stop.
Is the hospital a participating provider?
What does your insurance Explanation of Benefits show? What does it say you owe?
Call your insurance.
Ask them to deal with the billing.

I have BCBS Basic and coinsurance is on the medication itself and the supplies. Not a facility fee. For an in network facility I would be charged the copay for the procedure which is either 150 or 250.

Try calling the insurance company.

This is your problem. Hospitals will always be way more expensive than any alternative. Your bill is high but if your
Carrier didnt reprice, then they view it as usual and customary. I’d start with my carrier to confirm that it agrees to the remaining $13,500. If not you have an argument to reduce your portion. If not then yore at the mercy of the hospital.

Note that many hospitals sell their bad debt pretty quickly so you may end up dealing with a debt collector To resolve. Even while they are talking to you, if you hit that point at which the debt gets sold then the hospital may stop talking to you.

Fight it and write emails. Have everything in writing. Who is in charge of billing at the hospital?

Is that so high? 75$ a visit at a hospital?

Is the facility fee "fair"? Meaning the hospital spreads its overhead equally across every single outpatient event at x % and every single inpatient event at x%, etc. I mean of course it's outrageous but is there a way to find out the calculations? Insurance should want to be familiar with this since they are footing these bills including IP, OP, ED.

My BCBS PPO plan charges me 10% coinsurance for in network procedures. (All small group PPO plans in my state charge 10-30% coinsurance for in network procedures.)

The hospital billed a $13,000 facility fee alone for the 10 minute visit for Botox injections. That’s on top of $2000 Botox and the physican fee. As a result, they billed me $1500 for 20 units of botox. I emailed the billing department and the rep stonewalled with some AI response restating what was on the bill. The hospital has closed DMs on all social media.

Of course, I cancelled all future visits, but I would appreciate any help in negotiate down this crazy facility fee that I now owe. I’ve always found the best support on this forum, so thank you in advance.

Are you employed? Check with your employer (or your husband’s employer if that is your coverage) and find out if you have a health care advocacy benefit. This is a service that does the fighting FOR you in these circumstances. I have used my employer’s benefits twice in three years, both related to hospital/ER charges. It is, quite honestly, the best fringe benefit my employer offers.

The total cost of the procedure charged by the hospital was $15,000. OP has a 10% coinsurance--her part is $1500.
