Hello, DCUM!
I am a former lawyer and educator with more than ten years of combined experience as a classroom teacher and private tutor. I currently tutor students in high school, college, and beyond in a variety of humanities subjects. Helping my students discover and develop their own enthusiasm for learning is at the heart of my approach.
Subjects I tutor include:
English, including essay writing
Classics (Latin, Ancient Greek, and literature in translation)
French
German
History
Philosophy
Writing Support: Each stage of the process
Many students encounter challenges in the writing process. Receiving only limited feedback can compound these challenges, especially given that each student’s learning experiences and abilities are unique. Challenging areas can include:
· Close reading
· Understanding a prompt
· Identifying relevant evidence
· Directing research
· Structuring an argument
I work with students on each stage of the writing process, providing detailed feedback through written comments and discussions. My students apply the skills and content knowledge that they acquire with each writing assignment to the next, all while ensuring that the work is entirely their own. My goal is that with each meeting, students will be able to work more independently and with a growing sense of accomplishment.
AP Exam Support Resulting in 5s
AP exam preparation for Latin, French, German, and English is a focus of my tutoring, and students who have worked with me steadily have scored 5s on their AP exams. In addition to providing guidance for coursework, I advise students pursuing independent studies and writing competitions in history and philosophy.
