Lasted 4 full weeks for me, and I feel fairly certain it was only a cold or a cold-like virus. No fever, fatigue or body aches, just horrific congestion and a wet, hacking cough. Also had the worst pressure (but no pain) in my ears. It felt like I was under water. Worst, longest lasting cold I have ever had in my life.

Colds typically last 10-13 days

My whole family (including me) had this exact same thing for 3 weeks.

My colds were 3 days of significant sore throat, followed by about 10 days of thick bothersome congestion that made it hard to sleep, and a hacking cough that would last for 3 weeks even with albuterol. Oh and I'd be exhausted for a week.

Weirdest thing? Once I got pregnant, my colds suddenly turned into just normal , 3 day uneventful colds. Across the board. It's been 10 years now and I've only had maybe one cold that was as bad as the ones I used to get, and that cold was most likely covid due to an exposure I'd had. Go figure! Maybe you should get pregnant!

OP here. I'm 59, but it's a lovely idea!

It took me 3 weeks, OP. In hindsight, I think I had a cold and Flu A, because in the middle of the three weeks I had a fever, chills and fatigue, and then later my kid was diagnosed with Flu A. I haven't been that sick with a viral infection since I was a child.

Hope it's just a cold for you.

They can definitely hang on for a while, especially if you’re tired or stressed or have recently recovered from another virus. Sometimes age or underlying health conditions—even just perimenopause—can mean a big causes greater levels of inflammation, which then impedes healing.

Wishing you a quick recovery! Try taking a different non-drowsy antihistamine at morning and night. The OG 12-hour Sudafed from behind the pharmacy counter also helps a lot.
