They want to sell clothes. Clothes on plus sized apple shaped models will not sell well, even to plus sized apple shaped women.

Plus sized (or I should say non-traditional-model-sized) women vary... a lot.

Agree with OP. They don't have the proportions that plus size women actually have that need to be addressed when the clothes are designed, and the plus size part doesn't appeal to the rest society vs thin models, so it's a very pointless attempt at representation. And so many plus size clothes are designed poorly. I don't want to go sleeveless or bare my midriff...

No one is going to try to sell their clothing on an apple-shaped model. For obvious reasons. They need to use models with hourglass proportions.

I mean ...the point of models is to be aesthetically pleasing. So for plus size models, they are going to pick models with the most appealing bodies, which means hourglass and curvy. There aren't many people who can look at catalog models and say "ah yes I look like that and that's how these clothes will look on me". They may be thin but maybe they are short. Or have a different figure.

I'm short, fit, but with big boobs. Clothes never look the same on models as they do me.

I would recommend finding someone on SM with a similar body type if you're looking for ideas on clothes and the like.

Inspired by another thread, I’m posting to complain about the body type of what seems like most plus sized models shown on store clothing websites. The models are not stick thin it is true, but they always seem to be curvy shaped with a nice defined waist. I am an overweight apple shape so all of the photos of these models with tucked in shirts and belts are not at all helpful for me. I wish there was more diversity in the body shapes of plus sized models used to model clothes.
