Start with a great pair of jodhpur style boots. They can be chunkier — like Blunnies or Doc Martens, or sleeker like some of the Ariats and Thursday Boot Company options. There are lots of options out there at multiple price points. La Canadienne boots would be a good brand to try for baseline fit, comfort, quality and price — to give you a good basis for comparison with other options. Just go to your closest Nordstrom’s and see what they have.

I’m originally from McLean but live in Charleston. It looks like they have some retailers in DC that carry this brand. But honestly- Black Friday I bought six pairs- loafers, mules, boat shoes, wedges. The sizing can be a little weird though so I would try if at all possible to try on in person.

Vionic booties

I’m aged 50 and have a casual, modern preppy style. I’m looking for comfortable but stylish shoes to wear when out and about on weekends. Not sneakers, I have those. My pants tend to be more wide or straight legged, full length or slight crop.
