This I’m seeing an eye doc who specializes in dry eye. He said I could no longer wear contact lenses - they were doing too
Much damage to the eyes. I’m now on eye serum from my own blood 3x a day, OTC non- preserved dry eye drops, warm compresses, no fans near me, etc. the diagnosis is keratoconjunctitis sicca, ubomein (sp) gland dysfunction. It’s a serious medical condition, OP. Go see a dry eye specialist. They will do tests to determine how dry your eyes are.

The new daily contacts are a lot better for dry eyes than the old ones that you had to clean in a solution every day and change monthly or quarterly or whatever. I’m on Acuvue Oasys dailies and they are good. I have a higher prescription -9.5/-8.5 and see a lot better out of contacts so I tend to wear them more often vs. glasses. If you go to a reputable eye doctor, they will be able to recommend some good contact brands and give some samples to try.

Acuvue and B&L Infuse are two leading brands. Try multiple brands because no single brand works well for everyone. Get the daily ones that you throw away every day.

Don't fall asleep in them and don't wear them in the shower (or in any other steamy environment like a sauna). Avoid using eye drops, because they actually dry out your eyes more.

You might also want to try a fish oil supplement to see if it helps with your dry eyes.

I was on an extreme dose of accutane as a kid (120 mg) and have never had problems with contacts.

+1 I have dry eyes and Total Dailies, but honestly nothing makes my contact lenses feel good these days. It's just part of aging. And this rough winter with lots of heaters blasting doesn't help.

If it’s been 30+ years since Acutane, that isn’t the culprit. A lot of us get dry eyes as we age. It can even be a perimenopause symptom.

Sclera lenses are great for dry eye. There is a cushion of saline between the contact and your eye.

I stopped wearing contacts due to dry eyes (i used accutane almost 30 years ago and think I used it too long/strong - glad to hear they do dosage differently now, but I have no oil (sebum? Whatever) in my tears or my skin). When I went with my teen daughter to get contacts, I saw they had some “for dry eyes”. I would love to try them at least for dress up events. Any brand/type suggestions for the driest eyes? Fairly mild nearsitedness. Thanks!
