I don’t think cocaine use is normal or common. It is high-risk in general for several reasons, but as PP said, it can be laced with fentanyl, which is deadly.

There's something...scum baggish about people who do coke. A burn out pot head is less trashy, imo. Weird that he would "recreationally" use hard drugs. I assume he is drinking, too.

At some point you might want to check out AlAnon for you. In my group over half of the attendees have family members using drugs (not alcohol.)
