Keep in mind that legacy will influence admissions rates at UPenn, all other things being equal

Interesting about Holton. We know a few young women from there that got in but did not have high stats, impactful ECs etc.

Admission stats are most helpful from individual high schools vs regional. Look at your specific high school and see how many apply/accepted/rejected and look at stats (grades/testing) and other info like legacy, athlete, etc. Look at penn's mission statements and tailor narrative and essays accordingly. If I remember correctly penn loves to talk about Ben Franklin varied and extensive interests and they emphasize interdisciplinary learning, applied learning, etc. It's good to think ahead.

OMG - it’s Feb - your son is a Junior not a rising Senior FFS

NP and my kid is also a Junior and we're having a similar discussion. We talk about college a lot. In our experience, most families aiming high are doing this starting early in high school. If we waited months, we would not be playing the same game, which is fine, but typically not how this game works.

Thanks so much everyone. I’m glad to have this forum. The numbers looks really competitive looking at Bethesda magazine but I guess my son will give all he has to try. He loves the institution, I have told him not to set dreams on any one college. Thanks for sharing the data, it gives us the context to plan out his list of colleges Time seems to be flying! Before we know it will be August and time to apply

From nova public, got in ED this year to seas. Just a regular kid, no sports, no club leadership. 4.0 uw and 1500+

Good luck!

It's very comprehensive.

Just google the above and it should link you to a PDF with the info.

We're at what's considered one of the top publics in NoVa. Usually about 3-4 kids end up at Penn; Cornell is the only other Ivy with similar numbers at our school. Most are Asian.

I don't know the exact stats for these kids. Most are National Merit Semifinalists or Commended Students.

For context, there are usually kids going to all the Ivies from our school every year, except for Princeton. Maybe one kid from our school ends up at Princeton every three years. It's more of the outlier than Penn.

I don't know that they publish regional stats, but students attend Penn from most the privates and better publics every year. That said, it's obviously extremely competitive so if you soon is in the top 3% of his class, has great test schools and good ECs, he certainly has a shot.
