I dont think of Boulder as a great area for skiing. I'm sure there is some, but it's not right there.

I have a junior there and second all of this. You mention your son is interested in business - Leeds Business School is direct admit, solid and has some great opportunities for strong students.

I would say the common denominator is a love of the outdoors. I think it would be tough for a kid who didn't like some aspect of the outdoors - hiking, skiing (downhill or cross country), biking, etc. Greek life is definitely an option but not a huge part of the social scene. Wide range of interests. My DC isn't a big partier and has found community in many different clubs.

The town is lovely, but it's solidly a safety for anyone competitive for Michigan or USC. It attracts a different student body, academically speaking.

Boulder is beautiful, tons of sun, if you kid is not outdoorsy he will be when he is done... hiking, white water rafting, skiing. It's just part of the culture and it's not competitive, it's just fun.

It's a great school don't listen to the haters.

Housing is expensive but so are the other schools you mentioned.

My Michigan-bound kid really liked Boulder for similar reasons--sports, fun town, general good vibes. And the weather is much better. I think it's worth a visit

Certainly not in the same category as USC or Michigan, but it's a beautiful campus in a nice town. Skiing is a bit further than one would think (a few hours) but plenty accessible.

USC as in South Carolina?? Or U of Southern California?

Is this a fit for a kid who would otherwise like a school like Michigan or USC? He likes sports and maybe interested in joining a frat - wants to major in something business - but isn't a stoner and isn't especially outdoorsy. Would like to ski once a month, maybe.

Not sure we'd go all the way out there before applying
