We still had people without power for 3 days in a few neighborhoods in 2018. And that was in early March so no leaves on trees yet. It seemed like central and eastern Fairfax and Alexandria got hit worse than western, and I’m in Springfield so we were definitely affected. Idk I just have a bad feeling about this one. Hope I’m wrong though!

NWS is predicting gusts to 60 mph and widespread power outages, CWG is a little more conservative predicting wind gusts 45-55 and spotty outages.

We were without power for 2 days after the derecho and about a day and a half (36-ish hours) after the wind storm in 2018. Combined with the brutal cold and this could be a very hazardous situation for a lot of people. Seems like the wind situation will be worse the further north and west you are. Gas up your cars and be prepared to drive to a hotel if needed, and if you do have to leave, remember to drip your pipes so they don’t freeze!
