I’ve been popping for as long as I remember. I practice yoga so not an issue with stiffness. Idk. 40 now.

My knees pop like popcorn. It's super unsettling when doing stretching exercises. I am pretty flexible and generally fit.

Hi OP,

When you say you can't take HRT, did a menopause specialist tell you that you aren't a candidate or are you assuming because you have a family history of something? I'm just asking because if it is the latter, you might want to talk to a meno specialist. The guidance and advice around HRT is changing rapidly with research to back it up.

I just wanted to throw that out there. There has been a lot of discussion lately about how a generation of women have been done a huge disservice because of that faulty study back in the 90s. Many women who believe that they aren't candidates for HRT might actually be fine on it with little to no increased risk and a huge benefit such as bone health, heart health, etc.

Sorry about not being able to do HRT. I was on HRT as I entered the end stages of peri, but then the hormones were too much, my boob were sore all the time and I got a period every 2 weeks. Ug. So I went off. But when I went off - hot flashes, couldn't sleep, elbow pain, and my shoulder felt like it was headed to frozen shoulder territory.

Enter HRT, take two. I'm going to be mindful - I"m on the same low dose (.025 mg estradiol and 100 mg progesterone, I think). I'd take less if I could. But I'm on the first day of my 3rd week right now back on the HRT and the hot flashes are GONE. I'm sleeping MUCH better. Shoulder and elbows seem to be getting better.

Good luck.

Are you doing stretches? Flexibility will help a lot

Yes, when I get up in the morning, everything pops. It is so weird.

Yup, hips, knees, ankles. Not so much popping but dull ache.

HOT showers work wonders. I look like a Yeti sitting around the house because in bed I cannot be warm or I won’t be able to sleep, it blows.

Yes.
52 years old.
Knees started creaking 2 years ago.
Both shoulders suddenly started popping 3 months ago.
Very weird.
Other joints are quiet - for now.

It’s mainly my left elbow and ankle. Not on the right side, though.

It’s probably osteoarthritis.

I’m in my 40s, perimenopause, and breastfeeding which is a low estrogen state. At night I can hear endless bone popping and creaking. My movements are so noisy. I also wondered about this.

I'm OP - I can't take HRT. Just wondering if others have had something similar.

It’s prob from loss of estrogen.

My suggestion is to see a doctor about HRT.

I’m most of the way through perimenopause and a lot of my joints started popping/creaking literally every time I move them over the past few weeks. Shoulders are the worst but I don’t think it’s frozen shoulder since it doesn’t hurt. Also my wrists, ankles, knees. Is this a perimenopause thing, and will it get better??
