My child is thriving at Loiederman in 6th and I REALLY HOPE that we get to stay there. I am more worried to go back to our home HS which is not at all diverse or welcoming.

He didn't spell our "minus the DCC and NEC" either as far as I know, but we know they get to stay. Bur I don't blame you for wanting it in writing.

Transportation is the weak link in all of these changes. If MS programs/magnets currently are supported by MCPS bus transportation, I would not be surprised to see that support disappear without much notice in fall 2027.

They will end with the program analysis implementation for new students (existing students will stay).

Middle school magnet changes are TBD because the state's new requirement of 60 minutes of math in middle school may mean that kids only get one elective a year and so magnets and immersion may need to be rethought or dropped entirely.

Currently 8 elementary schools get to choose and lottery into Loeiderman, Parkland, and Argyle. These are called “whole school magnets”. There are a limited number of out of boundary seats available for other kids to lottery into.

What happens to both of these groups in 2027? Do the in boundary MSMC kids move to their new MS assignment? Do the out of boundary kids go to their home school?

I’ve heard Taylor say in previous BOE meetings that students in “regional magnets” Will get to finish out their program. But I haven’t heard the same for school-based programs.

There is nothing in writing about this. Taylor’s slides and documents today all say that grades 6 and 7 will move.

I have the same question for my current 9th grader who is at Einstein for VAPA. Will they be forced to move to Woodward in 11th grade or will they be allowed to finish at Einstein?
