Definitely go shopping on Magazine St. For restaurants, here are some suggestions:
Herbsaint
Cochon for lunch
Compere Lapin for brunch (you can drink out of a copper bunny)
Beignets at the Ritz (much better than Cafe du Monde, although late night beignets at Cafe du Monde are great too)

If you are into history at all, the WWII Museum is amazing. I also liked Mardi Gras World.
And do a ghost tour in the French Quarter--so much fun.

Taking a short weekend trip with a couple of girlfriends to NOLA in early March and looking for some recommendations on restaurants, upscale bars and things to do! We are in our late 30s and have kids, so while we would love a good wine/jazz bar, not looking to stay out all night on bourbon street!
