Move away. Mcps hates special needs kids.

NP. We are at Flower valley, in Rockville, which is very much a neighborhood school. My kids do not have autism but I know of children who do who have done well there. It also hosts a SESES program so the teachers and paras are used to challenge students. I would pick a small neighborhood school you can afford and ideally walk to, and I do think one that has a social emotional support program might be helpful. Our counselor is WONDERFUL.

Middle school is a different story. We are considering private for middle school. We will see.

Can you share the name of the school so that I can check into it for my child?

He won't get much if he has an average iq or average test scores or is distracting to himself but not the whole classriom.

Our child has significant difficulty maintaining focus and is not easy to motivate. He has an IEP and has required extensive support this school year, which has resulted in him having many successes and wins.

I am so worried about moving to the area and not getting the services and assistance he needs to be successful.

I had always heard such good things about MCPS, and now do not know where we should think about moving in the DMV.

What kind of supports/classroom environment are you hoping for?

Just focus on ES right now and recognize that you may have to move again for a best fit for middle school. Perhaps rent rather than buy

I would look for small ESs that feed in to small MSs (avoid WJ as Tilden and N Bethesda MSs are around 1200 and avoid Whitman, as Pyle MS is more like 1500 - can't really speak to others)

Not mcps.

MCPS has been getting rid of autism programs. You're probably just going to need to get a lawyer and seek private placement.
