I believe the plan is to eliminate middle school softball. Currently, MCPS offers slow pitch softball for both boys and girls in the middle school athletics program. While it is a nice outlet and activity, unfortunately it doesn't do much to prepare boys for baseball or girls for fast pitch softball at the high school level.

I have heard the plan is to then add both flag football (for boys and girls) and volleyball (for boys and girls) into the middle school program. This would better align with the high school offerings than slow pitch softball.

This would make the most sense

HS Gymnastics will no longer be offered after this school year.

Middle Schools will have girls flag football starting next school year

Middle Schools will also have Boys volleyball

The NFL thanks MCPS to boosting their low ratings.

You are quite confidently incorrect.

Just like Thomas Taylor.

2025 was the second highest rated NFL season on record. Last years Super Bowl was the most watched ever.

Where are these low ratings?

MCPS is getting in on the very ground floor of what is sure to be a wildly popular national sports phenomenon that will be Women's College Flag Football. They already approved it for D3 athletics and I would imagine it will go live in all other NCAA levels by 2028 in time for the Summer Olympics

High schools will also discontinue Coed Volleyball (currently offered in the Spring) and begin offering JV Boys Volleyball. (High schools already offer Varsity Boys Volleyball in the Spring).

Additionally, as a likely replacement for Gymnastics, 13 high schools are piloting "STUNT" this Spring. In all likelihood, this will be offered at all 25 schools in Spring 2027. STUNT is essentially cheer with "Acro" and tumbling aspects - usually done as a head to head contest between two teams.

Middle Schools will add not only Boys Volleyball but also Girls Volleyball. Middle Schools also will likely discontinue slow pitch softball, which is currently offered for both boys and girls.

It exists, but insurance costs are likely responsible for cancellation.
