I believe the plan is to eliminate middle school softball. Currently, MCPS offers slow pitch softball for both boys and girls in the middle school athletics program. While it is a nice outlet and activity, unfortunately it doesn't do much to prepare boys for baseball or girls for fast pitch softball at the high school level.
I have heard the plan is to then add both flag football (for boys and girls) and volleyball (for boys and girls) into the middle school program. This would better align with the high school offerings than slow pitch softball.
