Our k-12 in mclean does make it's own decisions, and we are grateful. They were closed last mon-weds (which is more than usual for them), had a 2 hour delay on thurs and have been open regularly since then. They had all of their sports, musicals, etc beginning last thurs. All the students take busses, and they just use a storm stop schedule when the weather is bad and usual stops could be tricky.
I would lobby your board to make its own decisions. We have had years w/ no snowdays or just one or two delays.

I agree with you but some have buses and most pull students from large geographical areas. What they don't have is hundreds of different parking lots and adjacent sidewalks to worry about, just their own. They also don't have staff people assigned to monitor the situation in every area their students are traveling from, which is why it may make sense to follow the public system for the 1st couple of days anyway.

I'll name a school that is NOT back and that is SSFS. This is the first year they are following MCPS. Stupid decision.

Ours went back on a two-hour delay today. The first time I've seen it deviate from MCPS. Guessing tomorrow will be the same.

Now, if it will just not snow Tuesday night...

I think following the county’s decision is good initially, but after a week, a private school shouldn’t have to follow them just because the county still has schools to clear out.

+1 GCS in howard county makes their own decisions as well. We went back last Thursday on a 2-hour delay and on time Friday. I too am grateful.

Anyone else frustrated that their private school follows the county public schools for weather related closures? It seems to me you can certainly take guidance from what the local county decides but in the end make your own decisions. The private schools that make their own calls went back last week with 2-hour delays and this makes sense for those privates. I fully understand the decisions the public schools have had to make but the privates that follow MoCo in particular are now paying the price of not doing their own thing.
