Seconding those who say to buy arugula or baby kale instead - it is much hardier.

Did you post about this in the Wegman's reddit? There was a similar post just yesterday. Workers explained that the produce is freezing in delivery, then thawing and becoming slushy. It's happening everywhere and is only temporary.

Little Leaf Farms crispy mix is really good and stays good until I’m done using it (a week!). I used to buy Organic Girl but found that they, like most premixed salads in a bag or container, use small amounts of chlorine to wash the lettuce. Little Leaf doesn’t do this which is an added bonus in my book.

Anything that has a base of cabbage or broccoli even kale — will be hardier and last longer.

Bagged salads are packed with nitrogen. No oxygen means it stays fresh much longer.

I only buy organic lettuce if I must. I try to grow it year round--indoors in my kitchen during the winter and outside in my little garden rest of the year.

Baby kale, spinach and arugula last longer in those big bins.

At whole foods, I really like the organic girl brand. I generally avoid spring mix because it wilts too quickly. I like their butter plus and little gem.

Costco has a good boxed salad mix that doesn’t go bad quickly for us.

Stick with the crunchier ones.

This makes sense. Thanks! I don't like cabbage and I have a difficult time digesting it. Same with Kale. Therefore, I generally eat the softer lettuce - spring mix, boston lettuce etc. I could try iceberg, but it does not have a lot of nutrition.

This, though I also buy the giant tubs of spring mix from Costco and other than pulling a slimy leaf or two, they last beyond the best by date for me.

I have wasted a.lot of money on bagged salads recently. I shop at Wegmans or WF and buy the pre-washed Spring Mix in the tub and I noticed that the salad mixes do not seem to be rinsed and dried properly and the salad goes bad within a day or too. I never noticed this in the past. It's really odd. I used to buy the family pack, but ended up throwing away most of it because it gets soggy and gross. How do you make the salad mixes last longer?
