Í wouldn’t be opposed to assigning local (not permanent/globally across the whole site) numbers to each poster within each thread like Ring does.

Not exactly a porn section. In the early days, there were very few men on the site. When a man asked a question hoping to get feedback from other men, the thread was inevitably swamped by women and the general feedback was basically that men suck. To try to prevent this phenomenon, I created a forum for men only. However, that forum was also overwhelmed by women, some arguing that they absolutely, positively had to post there because to do otherwise would be to accept discrimination and, also, btw, men suck. As for the men who posted there, it turned out that they only thing they wanted to talk about was sex. So instead of a men's forum, we had a mixed gender forum that was all about sex. Bending to reality, I changed the forum into an explicit relationship discussion website. That worked fairly well for a while, but then it got us into trouble with the advertisers. Therefore, I removed ads from the forum. Then the forum attracted too many troublemakers so I implemented a login requirement for the forum. That only had the effect of chasing away the non-troublemakers. The result was that I had a forum that provided no revenue but created a huge number of headaches. So, I removed it.

Longtime DCUM users value anonymity and do their best not to disclose identifying information. Most of them would rather have their teeth pulled than put their name at the end of a post. Everyone is free to do what they want, but it is definitely not the norm to provide a signature.

Hey fam! I am very new to DCUM, and I think imagine it will be helpful! I’m just trying to figure out the formatting and etiquette business over here. For instance, signing off at the end of a post. Is it normal? Do you give your name? I ask because I’ve seen a pretty prolific user called “Marlene” who always does this. Should I? Is it the norm? Thanks!
