Also, the band teacher assigns sight reading work that students record and turn in for a grade. A fun way to make sure that students are still strengthening their skills at home!

SR had one snow day then went virtual. MS was asynchronous. US was determined by the teacher if it was asynchronous or not.

My kids' small religious private closed up shop, except for one of the academic competition programs, whose coach was thrilled that her students would have a ton of time to prepare.

Visi did 1 snow day off then went to synchronous online classes.

Gonzaga did 1 snow day, then 1 asynchronous day, now on to synchronous online classes.

GDS gives two full snow days a year, and then it's virtual. Synchronous (zoom classes) for HS, asynchronous (minimal off-screen assignments) for LS. I think MS is a mix of synchronous and asynchronous. This mix seems age appropriate to me.

They give them the first snow day of the year to play and relax and then it's asynchronous work for US. Teachers post assignments in Canvas and they are due the next day or next time the class meets depending on the schedule/timing of snow days. It's definitely not the same amount of work as a full day in school, but I appreciate the assignments that keep the ball rolling.

SSSAS gives the first snow day (of the year, not per snow event) as an actual snow day, and then goes to virtual school for additional days. DC has only been in US, but it is actual school on a modified schedule because it’s only classes — assemblies, chapel, etc, don’t meet. Individual teachers have the autonomy to meet or cancel, however; one of DC’s teachers over the last couple days let the students have free time after checking in because the planned activity (student presentations) could not be adjusted to online. The choir teacher did the same thing, you can’t effectively rehearse online. The other classes have been just fine.

The other two divisions have different daily schedules and I think LS may have asynchronous work, but I’m not sure.

What do different schools do on snow days?
