Was your spouse planning to wait at home for the dd to show up?

Don’t know. We had a miscommunication where I’d thought we’d understood she was picking up. She told me order was on its way. I told her the road wasn’t passable so she’d have to meet the delivery person at the intersection. She’d already left a generous tip.

Let me know if you need more details.

If your street is plowed and you go down to meet the driver so he doesnt have to find parking, and tip at least $20, then OK.

Some people who do doordash depend on it for their livelihood. It doesn’t require specialized training, any kind of degree etc…and when there is weather like this they know they will make even more money doing this. I can’t imagine thinking you are hurting someone by doing exactly what they depend on? Nobody is forced to accept an order. It’s taken by who wants it. Period.

Not rude, good grief there is free will - driver can decline if doesn’t feel safe.
I door dash weekly meals for my elderly parent, even after the storm - + extra tip, happy to support them

I think it depends on your specific location. My street is well plowed and my walkway is clear but the driveway has some slick spots so I’m not doing any type of delivery for now. It’s not worth the risk if the person falls. If not for the driveway, I’d order but tip more generously for the weather. As mentioned previously, drivers don’t have to accept an order.

I took a long walk the the Metro today instead of calling an Uber (the car was still snowed in), because the roads near us weren't cleared yet and I didn't want to get anyone stuck.

Agree with this. Our road was cleared, so I took an Uber to PT today, requested a larger car just in case, and tipped 50%.

Is it rude to order Doordash on a night like tonight with the snow?
Or people depend on making money from being a Doordasher, so it's actually a good thing.
We just both got home from work, and there's nothing in the refrigerator... and then this deep philosophical issue came up...

Ordering tonight is fine, just tip well.

Should have mentioned the above assumes you live on a street that has been plowed and is reasonably drivable for someone without 4 wheel drive. If you live on a street that is still unplowed and are ordering DoorDash then you’re a jerk.

It's not rude, they get the choice on which orders to pick up.

Just make sure you tip excellently, otherwise you may not get your order at all if no one takes the job.

We had to dig out a stuck pizza guy today, so know your own street conditions.
