OP, yes, I think this is what I've learned. I feel like they used to be far more functional but somewhere in the last 10-15 years have become fashion shoes. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

My feet are always cold and I recently snowshoed in 13 degree windchill for 3 hours with only one pair of socks. My feet were warm the entire time.

I have the lined LL Bean boots. They're great-- almost too warm for around here.

This is funny because my Sorels are warm (and lined) but NOT waterproof.

Maybe try the lined boots from LL Bean? I've heard good things about those.

Sorels are never warm

Stick to Ugg, The NorthFace, Kodiack, Bogs, Burtons etc outdoor brands.
