Low self esteem women are the ones who are overweight and present an unkempt exterior.

Uh, what? How come “standards” and self-esteem only seems to apply to the external being?

What is this?

When I spend 5 minutes putting on eyeliner, mascara, blush and lip balm, and running a Dyson Airwrap through my hair a couple times, the world treats me dramatically differently. Working world, neighborhood world, kids school world -- people are more open with me and invite me in to all sorts of situations.

When I don't do these things, people don't engage as much.

Huh? How about we just like to take care of ourselves. There is a lot of projection here. My mom was really into clothes and make up and I got it from her. I love dressing up. I love doing my makeup. Always have.

a hyper focus on looks and appearances is unhealthy. but the key word here is hyper. its okay to care about your appearance. its okay to like fashion. its not necessary to be frumpy.

I think there are just some women who are more comfortable with makeup and hair done. My best friend is like this. She’s been like this since we were in middle school (in our 50s now). I’m low maintenance because I had hard to match skin tone before makeup became more inclusive. It’s just comfort level and what you grew up with as acceptable.

Life is hard enough for women, I’m not going to criticize appearance.

(I also don’t care what Lauren Sanchez decides to wear.)

I care about my appearance, yet I fit neither of your proposed descriptors. Imagine that!

I'm getting divorced and I think it's a normal reaction to be unexpectedly 'back out there'. I agree confidence is attractive, but attractive is attractive too and I know I have to put in some effort if I want to date somewhat attractive men-which I do.

Women who are hyper focused on their looks, are they self centered or just trying to hide their low self esteem?
