Oooo I love this! I'm a 40yo woman and I've had a plan for the zombie apocalypse since 2012. I actually did a bunch of survival training and won a Hunger Games contest years ago.

Now, most of the men I've dated *have* had survival plans for various disasters. There is a lot of bias here, because I am definitely attracted to that type of man, and not your standard office desk jockey. So throughout my life I have dated various military, agents, etc.

However, having a plan or even experience does not mean they are actually useful in an apocalypse situation. I've gotten into some hairy situations before with the men I've dated (bc we're all quite the thrill seekers) and most choke when it comes to an actual life-or-death situation.

My current partner does not have a plan for the zombie apocalypse, but he is by far the most competent man I've met when it comes to survival. Probably because it's not fun and games for him, he literally had to start surviving in extreme and quite horrific conditions since he was a child. Like he knows how to move through wilderness without leaving any tracks so that the people tracking you can't find you.

So really, instead of fun games like zombie apocalypse plans, he has plans for realistic scenarios that can happen in real life. Example, we always have a plan for us & the kids in the event of a mass shooting while we're out. He's also the one who keeps his cool and give direction whenever something really horrific happens, such as a bad car accident with casualties.

On a side note, when I was doing a bunch of private survival training with a well-known survival expert back in 2013ish, I remember during one of our sessions, he all of a sudden said "You know, I teach all these rich men who are so miserable with their jobs and their lives they pray for the zombie apocalypse so they can escape it all. I don't know WHY y'all wanna have to survive in the woods. Surviving in the woods SUCKS. Every night all I want is to go home, microwave a TV dinner, and watch Family Guy".

So, I've had a bugout bag since 9/11. I refresh the supplies every couple of years (i.e. replace the freeze-dried food, etc). It has camping stoves, weapons, survival equipment, sleeping bag, etc. They're discreetly stored but easily accessed.

In recent years, I've upgraded to be ready for a zombie apocalypse. The weapons stash is more varied. In addition to the arsenal of handguns and long guns, there are a number of bladed weapons including machetes and other knives. I was also inspired by Lucille, so I have my own version. Lucille I keep under the bed, so also handy for break-ins.

We have a plan, a bunker buried in central VA that we would have to get to, but we have a route we can take. The bunker is well-supplied with things we could use to survive for about five years. We visit the bunker annually to camp, replenishing supplies and the like. I think this could also be used in the event of civil unrest or maybe nuclear war, although I'm not certain about the latter.

I made a plan and DH refined it because he’s just as big a nerd and he’s an engineer so he has to improve things.

Hope I'm one of the people who dies in the opening montage.

We all have a plan for the zombie apocalypse as well as a plan if we win the lottery.

If your child is discussing it, it’s fine and hilarious.

If they are prepping for it… they need a therapist.

My DH sure doesn’t. But I have always had a bit of a plan, and the first step would be to ditch DH. He’d be a serious drag on our survival probabilities and I’ve always told him that I’d ditch him in an apocalypse setting.

DH and my teenage son were having an argument this morning about whether Tolkien’s wizards are a different kind of species, like angels, or whether they are human beings who have achieved powers through books and training. This is a fairly typical conversation in our house. I turned to DD (14) and said, “I’m sorry, but you are never going to marry someone who doesn’t have an opinion on the ‘grandfather paradox’ or a plan for the zombie apocalypse.”
She responded, “Mom, I have never met a boy who didn’t have a plan for the zombie apocalypse.” She says this isn’t just the boys she knows, but that it’s normal and transcends nerd culture.
