The only one my 10 yo &13 yo eat, there’s real honey in the center.

And when DCs have cold symptoms, they also use neti pot and salt water gargling.

My kids liked the Luden’s wild cherry cough drops, but I think they’re basically candy. If they contain any kinds of actual medicine, I’m unaware of it. I agree with PPs that any kind of hard candy would likely be as effective. For that matter, I think honey is supposed to be particularly good, so you could try a spoon of that. Sometimes I make hot lemon tea with honey. We also had a lot of frozen (thawed) sweetened strawberries, soups, popsicles, and puddings.

Something my kids’ pediatrician recommended is gargling with warm salt water. I think it not only soothes, but helps fight against bacteria.

We also liked to use the Vicks patches (make sure you remove before laundering) or plug-ins (DO NOT LEAVE PLUGGED IN - read the instructions)

I should note that I am just a parent with absolutely no medical qualifications.

Here’s an ER pediatrician’s tips for coughs:

Not weighing on the age of kid issue, but here are two mild flavored alternatives:

Hall's Strawberry/CVS Strawberry cough drops. I buy these when I expect to use many in a day.

Hall's Vitamin C drops (these have no medicine and I think they taste great. Generic are not as good.)

And no minty flavor for him

My kid likes camomile tea with honey. We put an ice cube in it so it's not too hot.

Yes they are over six years old. There are some coughs that shouldn’t be suppressed and some that can be suppressed but only your doctor can tell you after consulting with them.

Many cough drops are really no more than hard candy with a cough suppressant. So just get hiim any hard candies he will hold in his mouth and suck on.

Good info. I was thinking a throat smoother. That’s how I use them.

I’ve never taken any kind of cold medicine or cough drop. Try that.

Cough drops for 8 year old?
This particular child hates everything Mint

I have the honey lemon ricola, I’m afraid he would waste/go through these, spitting them out after 1 minute.
