I actually agree with you that they should never separate families. (I mean have they, though? Are dad and son together?) I think it would actually have been worse to have left the boy with a stranger with whom he might or might not be safe.
What makes the situation UNFORGIVABLE is that the father was legal. It isn't that he is not a violent criminal. It is not that he is not any sort of criminal. It is that he is here LEGALLY.

neither the father nor the son should have had their lives disrupted. they were in the system and doing everything in accordance with the law- the premise is simply wrong about whether they should have been separated or not or anything else. ICE had ZERO legal right to interfere with their lives at all.

This family is the same as so many who followed our laws and are being picked up on the streets like stray dogs.
