Smart. FWIW, if you do get stuck an extra night, the city can be really peaceful and beautiful when it snows. Enjoy that!

$120 / night and there is an off Broadway show on Sunday night that I want to see, so I won't be mad about it all!

I can get to a friend's house in DC or I guess just find a hotel worst case if I can't get to Fairfax. I am trying to hope for the best and that it is a bust storm. Luckily hotels in NYC are pretty cheap this time of year, lol!

6pm Sunday? I would definitely book another night in New York. Do your traveling Monday in the daylight.

Agreed. I commuted on the Acela back and forth between DC and NYC for several years right up until Covid hit. What I found during big storms was many trains were cancelled--not because of the actual storm, but because most of the employees couldn't get to work, and many times employees were told to not come in due to the storm, not wanting them on the roads.

I would not risk getting stuck in Penn Station at 6pm in a storm.

Ice can really mess things with the commuter trains in NYC. There will be issues and delays, but I think it's rare that the entire system gets shut down for significant periods.

New York won’t get as much snow, and no ice. Train will run, BUT may not run to/through Dc. Ice on the tracks halts the train.

This.

You can’t rely on taxis or uber or even metro once you get back to DC.

You should try to catch a train home Saturday night or plan to return on Monday afternoon or Tuesday.

Leave as early as you can and expect delays. Hope for the best I guess.

No one can really say but it takes a lot to really shut down amtrak so i’d guess 9 am Sunday would be ok

I think the train will be cancelled if we get as much snow aw predicted. I’d book a backup train for Monday afternoon.

Need to book train ticket from NyC to DC on Sunday. Is there a high risk trains wil cancel from the storm? Is there a better strategy to do regional train or better to be on Acela? Looking at 9am train.

Welcome advice from experienced Amtrak folks! I can’t leave NyC until Sunday morning
