Spouse would notice the kid who got a D first quarter but an A fourth quarter with a C and a B in between -- that tells a good story. Now this is a student who battled through the subject matter and kept trying. Maybe the teacher was hard or maybe the subject was a hard one for them, but man, this student hung in there, kept trying, and fought to improve! Too many easy As in high school today, unfortunately.
That's all good and well in college, but when your kid is applying to the same colleges as the kids getting easy A's in the other Geometry section then the final grade's impact on GPA matters more than whatever feel good story the quarterly grades tell.
