Yes! It’s worth it. They will practice over the summer and she will go into high school knowing many girls in different grades and already feel a part of something. That alone if huge. Swimmings work hard, often with practice before school AND after. But it helps them time management. Swimming is also a great sport because you are part of a team and have the benefits of that, but untimely it’s an individual sport and you are simply working to improve your own scores.

Our teens do a sport per season in HS and will continue to do so for 4 years. They don't do it for college but because it provides structure, physical activity and built in community and friendships.

My DS is doing 2 sports in HS and loves it! Let her decide, she can always drop out if she cannot manage with academics. College is unlikely unless she's really good and shouldn't be the focus.

+1 to what the PPs are saying and also no it does not help for college unless recruited.

If she ends up captain or something, that shows leadership but you can show that in a school club or other pursuit.

Let them swim for enjoyment and exercise, not college.

Most kids who swim on the high school team are there because it is fun and they love swimming. If that appeals to her let her do it. Most kids who are aiming to swim in college are on club teams.

My teen is a swimmer. I wouldn’t worry about the college angle. Does she want to swim in high school? Does she think it will be fun, with friends, and a good use of her time? Does she want the commitment to, in part, help her stay fit?

What does she want to do, for herself?

My daughter loves swimming but is now fully confused. I did not pursue sport so I have no clue. If all you got is BB times and have been swimming for last 7 years as your main sport, is it worth her time (rare commodity) to continue in high school ? I ask because until middle school it was manageable but high school will have its own demand on her time. Anyone here thinks colleges will still look at it positively if she continues to swim or will it not matter
