Me too. My mom got me the "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret" book for Christmas when I was nearing that age and it was mortifying. I really disliked that book and the didactic intent.

The less fuss the better, in my opinion.

I only had boys so didn't have to make the call.

Do not do this.

But do buy her a period swimsuit bc that’s usually the event that causes future meltdown (pool event and period combo)

Uh, yeah, this.

Celebrate? No. I just bought her several cute pouches to keep her pads in her schoolbag, and various other bags she uses for extra-curricular activities, and I spent time educating her about how to manage her period. I always make sure to have nourishing, iron-rich foods for her when she's on her period. We are both borderline anemic, so this is important for us. She hasn't had cramping, thank goodness, but I'd be ready for that too, with hot pads for her belly and pain relievers. I also realized there was period underwear available for women these days, and bought some for both of us!

In brief, I think surrounding her with care and attention is more important than conveying that it's a party situation.

DD just got their first period. She is a bit freaked out by it right now.

I remember hating my period for many, many years before I became more neutral about it, so hoping to set a different tone for DD.

Looking for ideas to celebrate the occasion or at least make periods seem not terrible for DD. Would appreciate hearing what others have done. TIA.
