I've also seen it where the kid changed it due to some new health concerns and wasn't sure about doctors etc in the area and needed time to research?

If you are having second thoughts, switch to RD. It's much better than breaking ED contract after which has far more ramifications. It will be ok.

Ended up with several RD options.

Assume chances are slim to none. Changing from a binding path to a nonbinding one indicates to the college that you are unlikely to yield if accepted.

For those whose kids changed their ED2 to RD, what was the ED2 school & did they end up accepting, waitlisting or denying your kid? I'm referring to making the change before the ED2 decision notification, as opposed to breaking the contract after ED2 acceptance is given. I've heard of only rejections from UChicago in this scenario, curious about other schools.
