I've also seen it where the kid changed it due to some new health concerns and wasn't sure about doctors etc in the area and needed time to research?
Got in after switching to RD.

I know one kid who got into Chicago last year with a last minute change from ED2 to RD. They told Chicago that it was due to job uncertainty with the DOGE layouts/firings which wasn't entirely true but worked as one parent is a fed.

If you are having second thoughts, switch to RD. It's much better than breaking ED contract after which has far more ramifications. It will be ok.

Emory. Switched ED2 to RD. Was Waitlisted.
Ended up with several RD options.
At Cornell.

What about a top 20 SLAC?

Consider it a wasted application.

Op why would any competitive school admit a kid who just signaled they aren’t that interested? It’s basic logic.

Assume chances are slim to none. Changing from a binding path to a nonbinding one indicates to the college that you are unlikely to yield if accepted.

Yes, expect a RD rejection if it’s a top school.

For those whose kids changed their ED2 to RD, what was the ED2 school & did they end up accepting, waitlisting or denying your kid? I'm referring to making the change before the ED2 decision notification, as opposed to breaking the contract after ED2 acceptance is given. I've heard of only rejections from UChicago in this scenario, curious about other schools.
