YMCA CTA program. You have to pay for it, but if she likes working with small kids it could be great. Once she turns 15 or 16 (I can't recall which) she can apply to be a full counselor. And I think those hours can somehow go toward school community service; several kids in my kid's camp were getting credit.

IME, shelters don't want younger kids. This only works if the parent will volunteer with her.
Any ideas for animal-related volunteering for 13 year olds?

My local library has story time for the young children and they need volunteers to help.

Do you have any Little Free Libraries in town? She could reach out to the caretaker and see if they need help cleaning it or managing the inventory. You can use the map to find out the name of the Caretakers.

I don’t know where you live, but Montgomery County has a volunteer database that can be filtered by age. Perhaps your county has something similar, if not maybe you can use the Montgomery County one to get some ideas and then you can seek out their local equivalents where you are.

At about that age, mine did a volunteer stint at a local art studio that ran summer and holiday break camps for younger kids.
She helped with setup and cleanup, created demonstration projects, and guided campers through their own projects.

Check with your local library and see if there is a volunteering program.

She could tutor elementary school students in reading, or volunteer at after school programs, or be an assistant with art classes.

Play piano at a nursing home? Could also read to residents or help with arts and crafts activities there.

I am looking for ideas for volunteering for an 8th grade girl. Her siblings are very involved in Special Olympics as unified athletes and coaches, but it's the not right choice for her. She's a very gentle girl, pretty introverted, who loves to read, and do art, and play the piano. She also likes helping with small children.
