I agree. At the younger ages, it’s hit or miss, but generally Elevate and Hurricanes are the better teams. But last year, the 4th grade Blue team (Vogues A team) was special. Were the best and better than the A teams from Hurricanes and Elevate. You can look at the tournaments and see the result. But that team was an outlier. Most of those girls from that Vogue team left for 5th grade to form a new team. So for 5th, the Vogues will be somewhat worse…

Here is the info you are looking for.

At 5th, all programs are good.

Last year the Vogues A team was amazing. They killed everyone and won many tournaments. The Elevate A team was good, The hurricanes A team was decent, but not as good as the other 2. This was 4th grade.

Elevate had a decent B team. Vogues had a decent B team (white) and not a very good C team (regional). The Hurricanes B team did not play in any tourneys, just the Darnstown League.


So now at 5th, the scoop is Hurricanes are decent. They lose talent as the girls age up as they are not part of a circuit. I don’t know how many teams they have, but they get less competitive in the older grades.


Vogues fell apart. Their A team (Blue) lost many of their top players to forms a new team. So now they have 1 dedicated A team and are looking for a coach for their B team. Who knows if there will be a C team.

Elevate has a good A team and decent B team. They are putting together a C team as well.


As the programs age up, Elwvate plays on the SSB Adiddas circuit, the second most competitive shoe circuit. They are super hard to make at 9th and above and get national exposure for the A team. They will carry A B team.

Vogues and Hurricanes have no circuit exposure and bleed talent at the older ages.

The top programs are in EYBL (Durant, Stars, Takeover), SSB (Elevate Elite) or UAA

Logistically, it would be close to impossible. You will often be in the same tournaments (especially at 3rd grade, where there are only a handful of girls teams). That would be . . . awkward.

We’re also looking at Vogues but communication has been a bit frustrating. We didn’t receive confirmation of tryout registration and haven’t heard back on emails, and there were no updates yet regarding tomorrow’s canceled tryout. Just wondering if this is typical for Vogues or if we may have missed something.

Vogues used to be one of the premier clubs, but that faded. However, Vogues seems to be coming back up. One of the reasons I hear is that they put the same emphasis on all teams, not just their premier teams. Elevate is great if you are on the 3SSB or Gold team, but the lower teams are more just for revenue. They are still good teams, just not recognized as much by the organization. Vogues is a little more laid back whereas Elevate has more pressure. One big difference is that Vogues teams like to utilize all of their players, where as Elevate does operate more like HS where you have your starters then bench players who may or may not play. If you are a gifted player, you might not like sitting on the bench some with Vogues. If you are an average player, you may get more playing time on Vogues than Elevate.

If at all possible, go to the open gyms. Get a feel for the culture of each team/coach. We went to one open gym and it was a hard no for me.
Also there are other choices besides those two groups. I would go see who is playing in shots up- look at the brackets and research the teams. You can also go the aau games, they currently play at the st James . Look at the age group schedule and go to the games. Lots of aau teams. If you see a team you like approach the coach and ask if you can try out.
If you are playing in fcybl and you go to these games and see a team/coach you like go talk to them. They may coach a aau team.

Well I have boys but my impression is that Vogues is basically entry level AAU and Elevate are higher level teams.

Anyone been with both vogues and nova 94/Elevate? Which did you/your kid prefer?

For my daughter’s age group, tryouts overlap (this is not the case with all age groups). Appreciate hearing your experiences if your kids have played for both.
