It will depend on the age group and the coaches. SYC is brand new so we don't know how they will handle it.

We had an excellent experience with USL Y because it introduced us to coaches that completed reshaped my son. We were not with any of the organizations noted above.

USL Y is really well organized and we learned about Christos FC and have become supporters of the USL brand in general through our previous experience.

If you are thinking about switching to one of those teams in the future or look at it like an extra summer camp it can be worth it and i would choose the team you think your kid may be interested in. If you are doing it to have your kid improve you are probably better off using the money for a personal trainer.

Depends what you want out of it and how old your kid is, for sure.

What age? Also, it is USL-Y is kind of a crap shoot, I wouldn't take it too seriously. Also, if a team does really well is USL-Y then you just bought yourself a trip to florida before winter break and the host club does not have to take your non-club player for the championship.

Just go into USL-Y looking for your kid to play with someone they know at a location that is close to you. After 5 years, of participating the majority of the feedback from parents has been fairly low. Most parents come away saying things like, "we are not doing that next year."

I would say, yes participate, but don't get wrapped around the axle of which club to join.

If you are around during the first part of the summer (June-July), then it's not necessarily a waste to get 2 practices a week for a couple of months, plus 7-8 games. In the games, your kid may play in some different positions with different teammates than usual. The USL-Y finals in Tampa are well-organized and fun if you qualify. But half the teams you play in these "national" tournaments may be from VA or MD -- you will see Arlington and Bethesda jerseys all around you in Florida.

The problems are the same for all clubs. They typically over-roster, in part as a money grab but in part because families all seem to go on vacation the same weekend, so for 9v9 you'll have 17 show up to one game and 9 show up for the next game. Many, many practices get canceled for heat - they will cancel a 6 pm practice at 88 degrees "to keep the kids safe" then play a game Saturday 1 pm at 95 degrees. The top team players get frustrated when the roster has a lot of lower team players. If you do travel across two weekends in, say, late June, you can end up missing half the games with bad luck. So it will end up not feeling "worth it."
