Yes it hurts some. You can take advil an hour before -- it will still be uncomfortable during the squishing, but you may avoid some tenderness afterward if you are prone to that.

Also I think they have gotten better. Mine have felt uncomfortably squashed but not painful. My mom who is pretty sensitive says that twenty years ago she found them intensely painful and was surprised how painless they are now—maybe the machines are different?

It doesn’t hurt. It’s more like tugging at your boobs to position it. It’s discomfort not pain. It’s usually quick.

I’m sure chemo hurts more.

Mine have not been painful at all. I just feel pressure but not pain.

Good luck!

Yes, for a minute or two. Less than a pap smear in my opinion. And certainly less than breast cancer treatment, so definitely worth it.

I wouldn’t say it’s painful but mildly uncomfortable. The good news is it’s over super quick. Most of mine are no issue at all and I think I have had around 20. For reference, I have anxiety about most doctors and medical procedures but not a mammogram.

No it was fine. The most annoying part was the machine pressing on my rib cage but I don’t have a lot of padding there.

Just don’t wear deodorant or any lotions. It can mess up the result. It’s not a big deal.

My problem is the positioning makes me faint (it’s some kind of reflex, I have no idea why). I finally learned you can ask to sit down and they use a rolly chair/stool that is height adjustable. It makes it so much more comfortable for me. Still an awkward position but I don’t have the stress of worrying I’m going to pass out.

I mean it doesn't hurt enough to freak out about it. Its more like an intense soreness for about 15 seconds on each side.

This ranges quite a bit. I thought it was quite painful and I was sore for multiple days afterwards. But other women find it more annoying and have never had soreness. I have very small breasts and the physics of the machine seem impossible.

But even though I found it painful, I’d still recommend getting it done.

The hurt me a bit, but I have very sensitive breasts and they are pendulous which means they get squeezed relatively tightly. It's very survivable, though, lol.

No. If you breastfed it's no big deal.

Meh, it’s not my favorite thing to do, but I think it’s more “really uncomfortable” than “painful”.

They’re fine. It 4 times a 20 second squish—2 on each side. They’re not comfortable, but it’s over fast.

I’m having my first mammogram this week and am sort of freaking out about it. Are they painful? Any tips? Thanks!
