I haven’t watched the movie yet, but isn’t the book set in Palm Springs for a wedding with flashbacks to previous vacations sprinkled between?

OP here. I was not going to read the book so enjoyed the movie while half paying attention to it. Not bad.

It's not that bad. Granted I wanted a few Hallmark movies over Christmastime so considerably lowered my standards, but I enjoyed both the book and the movie. The characters were much more interesting than standard rom comers.

she wears cute outfits. Molly Shannon is amazing and hilarious, as usual, in her 2 minutes of screen time. And cute shout out to Boston College (apparently U Chicago refused to play along). That's it.

This. I used to live in New Orleans. After Katrina, they desperately needed to revitalize their economy and so they specifically set up financial incentives for movies to film there. Tons and tons of movies are filmed there now, and most of the time you would never even know.

Living there, the same way it seems like everyone you meet in DC works in government or politics or think tanks, everyone you meet in New Orleans either works in hospitality or is in the movie biz.

Why not Georgia then? Everyone films in Georgia and it looks more like Ohio than New Orleans.

Wasn't part of the movie partying in the French Quarter in stupid wigs? So two birds. Go to the French Quarter for the distinctive bits then go to a boring businessy part to make us think it's Ohio?

I loved The Americans but could not get over their "DC." Their supposed generic NoVa suburb was passable but the actual city was so clearly Brooklyn it rankled.

I noticed that too. Especially considering a major plot point in the book was the female main character not wanting to live in Ohio, it was an odd choice.

I'm watching this movie last night and even though they are in Ohio, things seem very familiar, but I ignore it. Toward the end, they are walking around "Ohio" again and I see uptown and know they are in New Orleans. I love that they did that but NoLa is such a distinctive looking place, even the plants are different, why did they choose it? Seemed a weird choice to me but was nice to see my old home town.
