I’d be most concerned about getting home. If we get walloped Sunday, are you good with staying by an extra day or two?

Chicago local here. There's no such thing as bad weather- only bad gear. Layer up, bring proper coat, cover exposed skin and enjoy time with your kid. The city is used to the weather and barring a huge blizzard everything will proceed as usual.

Def reschedule unless it's a trip you have to do to see kid

with my college age kids it is pretty unusual for them to want me to visit so if this is scheduled I'd stick with the plan. Also your child will have to endure the cold anyway so you can just do it together. Sounds like family lore in the making, remember when we were in Chicago in 20 below? have a great weekend!

if your child has agreed to this schedule, I would keep it. they may be busier another weekend and don't think cold weather concerns would be worth the trade off. I mean it really wont be that bad as presumably you were planning indoor activities anyway...

There likely won’t be flight delays but you won’t want to walk outside at all.
We went one MLK wknd and downtown with the wind, it was so cold, you didn’t want to walk a block. And I grew up in Minnesota. I would personally reschedule, it was a pretty brutal weekend.

Take snow boots, a good hat/scarf/gloves, and a heavy coat plus other layers.

Be prepared and you will be fine.

Plan to uber rather than walk.

The airports are better equipped to handle cold weather than our local airports, but sometimes flights are delayed for deicing. But that’s not a reason to cancel a trip.

Go and have fun. I haven't been to Chicago in almost 20 years but it was really fun then. No idea if it changed.

Keep an eye on the weather. It'll probably all end up as no big deal, but right now there's talk of nearly two feet of snow between Saturday and Monday in Chicago

I went to college in Chicago and delays are possible but Chicago does have the infrastructure to deal with it. The cold is nasty but layer up properly and honestly at some point you stop feeling it.

Leggings or long underwear under your pants help a lot. Everyone forgets to layer their legs. Hat and scarf are a must.

I hope my first year at U Chicago is ready for his first single-digit week! Yikes!

Don’t reschedule. Enjoy museums, restaurants, theater—all of which are great in Chicago.

Go. Presumably there not are many of these trips left. And I say this as someone who’s going to visit her college son in Michigan in early February.

I’ve been in Chicago during the winter months.
They are really good about handling winter weather. Snow is much different than the ice we typically get around here. They are very used to it there and continue on with life. The airport will de-ice the planes, but barring a blizzard you should be fine.

Once the you really wont be out long. You’ll wait in hotel lobby until uber shows up and then be dropped off right at front door of your destination. I’m assuming you’re not planning on doing outside type activities - like strolls along the lake. Save those type of activities for another visit.
