Then name some ways to draw attention to an overreaching federal government. If you had your way, we would all be speaking the King's english and enjoying kidney beans and yorkshire pie.

lol. Americans don’t have the grit or self-sustainability for a nationwide strike. They would freak out about missing out on prime 2-day shipping.

They need to shut down Minneapolis. ICE will keep coming, and then hotels will shut down so as to not provide them rooms. Make all the businesses close rather than serve ICE.

Anything that can demonstrate widespread disgust with current circumstances, and coordinated action in response, is positive.

We don't have great ways to resist authoritarianism, but not even trying is stupid.

How is this giving Musk more?

Perhaps I’m in a bubble. I haven’t shopped at Target in over a year. I’ve never had Prime — and know multiple people who have cancelled their Prime memberships and focused on spending their dollars in line with their values whenever they can. I’ve cut way back on my Amazon orders, and tend to use it for products that I can’t obtain elsewhere. Thanks to a newly opened Trader Joe’s, I’ve cut my Whole Foods purchases way back too. Refraining from shopping for ONE day is something I can do. If I can do this, I’m sure that highly motivated citizens in Minnesota can manage avoiding Bezos businesses for a day — even the ones who can’t manage a day off from work.

Many MN businesses are closing for the day. So tax receipts will in fact be down for the day. Of course that doesn’t make a huge difference to federal government. Still doing something is better than doing nothing. We’ll see what the effect is.

Yeah I hope I'm proven wrong but I don't get how doing this in MN helps.

If we could bring the NYSE and a number of airports to a halt, that would hurt the people Trump listens to. Would one day hurt though?

What else can we do? I have no ideas. Does anyone? I feel so helpless as the mid- terms are a long way off.

Try striking against paying taxes, which is the only thing the gov't cares about. The results for the strikers will not be happy ones.

Not buying anything only hurts businesses, but if that's the goal, have at it.

The call is for people to neither work, nor spend. So no shopping at least. Maybe no scrolling? But if the idea spreads it will certainly get attention.

We need this at the national level, too. Repeatedly.

Minnesota is planning a general strike on Friday, January 23. The call is for people to stay home and do nothing for 24 hours.

No idea if there is any effort to spread it to other states. Worth keeping an eye on. Regardless I will not be participating in the US economy on Friday.
