This depends. Are you the yacht club type? If yes, then you're correct, Sperry's were never out. But if you're EVERYONE ELSE, then they have absolutely been out of fashion for years.

$900 more for beat up looking rip off shoes from Italy at best (possibly with imported Chinese workers), maybe Turkey, maybe China?

OP, you need to break the shoes in yourself. And they should be Sperry or Sebago.

Love boat shoes! I got a pair from Rancourt, made in Maine. They run about $280-300, but price is fair for the quality. Mine are about 10 yrs old and I wear them a lot in summer. Posting a link, but they have a lot of color and sole variations to pick from. Men have more selection than women, just size down and pick narrow width.

Depends. Do you want to scream “I have no idea about boats and am following a trend”? Sperry boat shoes were never out. These are an order of magnitude more expensive for no reason at all.

Yes, they were. Unless you were on a sailboat, or at the bar at the marina after sailing your boat.

Which some of us were. Every year. So they were never out.

Definitely not. They are a preppy staple, especially around this area.

Depends what you want them for. To be the person with $1000 "boat style" shoes or to be a person with classic boat shoes you can use on a boat or slippery wet surfaces.

They don't show the designer soles. Faux boat shoes.

Get Sperry and look like you know what you're doing.

Sperry. I think this is an instance where the designer take on it doesn't add much if anything.

They are a perennial for my summer wear.

When I’m thinking about paying for the designer version of something I think about whether I’m going to reach for this in my closet in one year, or feel kind of dumb that I wasted money on it. The leather on these look really soft but I have to say I don’t see anything special about them. I’d get a pair of Sperry’s for $100ish.
